How much does a Private Prescriptions Cost?
A private prescription itself is a £25 fee, on top of the consultation, which is from £49 by phone, £79 by video, or £95 in clinic. You then pay the pharmacy for the medicine, which varies by drug. There is no fixed NHS charge on a private prescription, and our pricing is published upfront.

What is Private Prescriptions?
A private prescription is a prescription written by a GMC-registered doctor outside the NHS. It is legally valid in exactly the same way as an NHS prescription, and you can take it to any pharmacy in the UK.
The difference is how it is paid for. With an NHS prescription you pay a fixed charge, or nothing if you are exempt. With a private prescription, you pay the actual cost of the medicine plus a small discretionary dispensing fee charged by the pharmacy, usually around £5. For some medicines this works out cheaper than the NHS charge, and for others it is more, which is why your GP will tell you the cost before prescribing anything expensive.
Private prescription vs NHS prescription: What's the Difference
An NHS GP is free at the point of use but often has longer waits and shorter appointments. A private GP is paid for directly, usually seen the same day or within days, with longer consultations and greater continuity. You can use both, and seeing a private GP does not affect your NHS care.
