What we can and cannot help with IN LEICESTER

We can help with:

  • Depression and low mood
  • Anxiety, panic and health anxiety
  • Stress and burnout
  • Trauma and PTSD, including EMDR
  • Obsessive compulsive symptoms
  • Sleep problems connected to mood or anxiety
  • A second opinion on a diagnosis or medication you are unsure about

We are not the right service for:

  • A mental health crisis or active suicidal thoughts. See the top of this page. NHS crisis services are set up for this, and we are not.
  • Acute psychosis or anything needing urgent inpatient assessment.
  • An eating disorder needing medical monitoring.
  • Detox from alcohol or drugs, which needs a specialist service.

If you are not sure, call 0116 456 0583 and ask before booking. We would rather tell you we are the wrong service than take a fee for an appointment that cannot help.

MENTAL HEALTH APPOINTMENTS IN LEICESTER, ONE TO THREE DAYS

How soon you can be seen

Initial consultations are typically available within one to three days, and same-day for urgent cases. Urgent is not the same as crisis, and if you are in crisis the routes at the top of this page are faster and free.

    By video or in person

Assessments run by video or at De Montfort Street, whichever you prefer. Many people find a first conversation easier from home.

    What nothing being shared means

Your records stay with us. Nothing goes to your NHS GP unless you ask us to. If you want your GP involved, which is often sensible for ongoing prescribing, we will write to them with your permission.

What the assessment involves IN LEICESTER

    • A full history, covering your medical background and what has been happening for you, not just the last fortnight.
    • A detailed discussion of your current symptoms, how long they have been going on and what they are stopping you from doing.
    • A psychological and emotional evaluation, with screening questionnaires where they are useful rather than as a substitute for the conversation.
    • You leave with a written plan, and a clear answer on what would help and what we recommend. Where a diagnosis is appropriate, you get one; where it is not, you get an honest explanation of what is going on instead.

Treatment options after your LEICESTER ASSESSMENT

    Talking therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy and EMDR for trauma and PTSD.

    Medication

Prescribed and reviewed where it is appropriate. We do not prescribe controlled drugs, which is worth knowing in advance if you are currently taking one.

    Ongoing review.

Follow-up appointments to check whether treatment is working, and to change it if it is not.

    Group, family and relationship therapy

    Transfer to your NHS GP

For long term prescribing, shared care with your own GP is usually the better and cheaper arrangement, and we will write to support it.
