Book CBT IN OXFORD without the wait
Oxfordshire NHS talking therapy waits run to months, and anxiety and low mood get harder to shift the longer they run.
You are not committing to a course when you book. The first appointment is an assessment. You leave it knowing whether CBT is the right therapy for what you are dealing with, roughly how many sessions it would take, and what that adds up to. If CBT is not the right approach, you will be told then rather than at session six.

Why patients choose our OXFORD CBT SERVICE
• Assessed within a week, not a waiting list.
• Central Oxford, ten minutes from the station and walkable from the colleges.
• Evening appointments, so therapy fits round work or study rather than costing a day.
• The same therapist throughout. Continuity, not whoever is free.
• A defined number of sessions with a review date, so it does not run open ended.
• Online available, and you can switch between the two mid course.
• CBT, ACT and EMDR all offered, so the assessment picks the therapy rather than the marketing.
CBT FOR ANXIETY, DEPRESSION AND OCD IN OXFORD
CBT for anxiety
Generalised anxiety, health anxiety, social anxiety and panic. One of the best evidenced treatments there is, and for panic and specific phobias a short course often does a great deal.
CBT for depression
Works on the withdrawal and the thinking patterns that keep low mood going, rather than waiting for motivation to return first.
CBT for OCD
The specific approach for compulsions and intrusive thoughts, using graded exposure with response prevention.
CBT for exam and academic stress
Oxford’s particular version of this. Term time pressure, perfectionism, and the gap between how you are doing and how you think you should be doing. Common here, and treatable.
CBT for PTSD and trauma
Trauma focused CBT is a recommended treatment. EMDR is the other, and both are available, so the assessment picks.
CBT for stress and burnout
Where work or life has become unmanageable and the pattern needs breaking rather than tolerating.

HOW LONG DOES CBT TAKE, AND DOES IT WORK?
How many sessions. Usually six to twenty. Panic and phobias sit at the short end, depression, OCD and PTSD generally need longer.
How long each session is. [Confirm], weekly to begin with.
Does it work. CBT is among the most researched psychological treatments and is recommended in national guidance for anxiety disorders, depression, OCD and PTSD. It is not passive. The people who get the most from it do the work between sessions, which is why we say so before you book.
When you will notice something. Often within three or four sessions for anxiety and panic. Longer for depression and OCD.
H3: Where CBT has its limits
It needs your active participation. The between session work is where most of the change happens.
It works on the present. Where the difficulty is rooted in past trauma, EMDR is often the better starting point.
The structure does not suit everyone. Some people want space to explore rather than a plan with homework.

Parking
City centre, Oxford: 13 Beaumont Street, Oxford OX1 2LP
By train and bus: Oxford station is about ten minutes on foot and Gloucester Green coach station is closer. Central Oxford parking is heavily restricted, so park and ride is usually easier.
Or be assessed from home: Much of the assessment can run by video. Tell us if a video appointment would be harder for you than an in-person one, or easier. For autistic people that varies a great deal in both directions, and we would rather arrange it around you.

OXFORD CBT FAQS
[£X] for the assessment and [£X] a session, with six and twelve session courses at a reduced rate. You get the total at your assessment.
No. Book directly, and you do not need to be registered with a practice in Oxford.
13 Beaumont Street, opposite the Ashmolean, around ten minutes from the station.
The first is an assessment. After that, you and your therapist take something specific from the week, look at what you thought, felt and did, and work out what to try differently.
CBT is structured, time limited and focused on changing specific patterns, with work between sessions. Counselling is more open ended and exploratory.
Only if you ask, or if there is a serious risk to your safety.
Most people are assessed within a week.
Usually six to twenty. You get an estimate at the assessment rather than an open ended commitment.
Yes. You can self refer to NHS Talking Therapies without a GP referral, free of charge. Waits vary and are often months. If you can wait, use it. People pay here for speed, evening appointments and continuity with one therapist.
Yes, with the same therapists, and as effective as in person for most problems.
CBT works on changing an unhelpful thought or behaviour. ACT works on accepting it and acting on what matters to you anyway. ACT is often the better fit for something that is not going to change.
We have GMC registered doctors, so both can be arranged here rather than across two providers.
