Get a PRIVATE SICK NOTE IN BOURNEMOUTH

You complete a short consultation form, a doctor assesses you by phone, video or in person, and the certificate is issued electronically if it is appropriate.

It is a consultation, not a purchase. A doctor has to assess you and form a view about your fitness for work. Most people who book do receive a certificate, but it is not automatic, and a doctor who issued one without an assessment would be putting their registration at risk and giving you a document worth nothing.

Why patients choose our BOURNEMOUTH SICK NOTE SERVICE

    • A doctor assesses you, by phone, video or in person. Not a form and an automatic certificate.

    • Same day, electronically. Usually within hours of the consultation.

    • £100 covers both the consultation and the certificate.

    • Told first if you do not need one. Self certification and your own GP come before our fee.

    • Adjustments considered, not just signing off. A phased return or altered duties is often the better outcome.

    • Seen in Edgbaston or from home. In person at Hagley Road, Edgbaston if you prefer it.

Before you pay in Bournemouth: WHEN YOU DO NOT NEED A SICK NOTE

The first seven days. For illness lasting seven calendar days or fewer, employees in the UK self certify. You do not need a note from any doctor, and your employer should not be asking for one. Most employers have a self certification form, and many accept an email.

If you are registered with an NHS practice. A fit note from your own GP is free. People come to us because they cannot get an appointment inside the timescale their employer has given them, or because they are not registered locally, or because they want it dealt with today. Those are all good reasons. Not being able to get through on the phone by nine o’clock is not the same as needing to pay £100, so try first.

If your employer is demanding a note for a short absence. They can ask, but for the first seven days it is not a requirement, and where an employer insists on medical evidence they cannot get free, the reasonable position is that they meet the cost.

We would rather tell you this now than take £100 from you for something you did not need.

How long it covers: SICK NOTE DURATION AND BACKDATING IN BOURNEMOUTH

      1. Step 1

How long a note can run

In the first six months of a condition, a fit note can cover up to three months at a time. Beyond six months it can be issued for longer. The doctor decides the period based on the assessment, not on what you ask for.

      2. Step 2

        Backdating

A doctor can only certify what they have assessed. Where you were plainly unwell before the appointment, an earlier start date may be justified and the doctor will say so. No doctor will simply date a certificate to whatever suits your employer, and one who did would be giving you a document that falls apart under any scrutiny.

      3. Step 3

        May be fit for work

A fit note is not only a yes or no. A doctor can record that you may be fit for work with adjustments, such as altered hours, different duties or a phased return. That option is often more useful than being signed off outright, and it is worth discussing at the consultation.

      4. Step 4

        Running out

If you are still unwell when the note expires, you need a further assessment before another can be issued.
