What is a mental health assessment?

A mental health assessment is a confidential conversation with a specialist about how you are thinking and feeling. It covers your current symptoms, your history and your circumstances, so the psychiatrist can understand what is happening. Where appropriate, they provide a diagnosis and a clear explanation, and set out treatment options and next steps.
