Private Vitamin B12 Injections

£95 an injection, same day appointments at ten UK clinics.

1mg hydroxocobalamin, given into the shoulder muscle by a doctor. No referral and no registration needed. If you have not had a blood test yet, read Module 5 first, because having the injection before the test makes the test useless afterwards.

Book a B12 INJECTION without the wait

Same day and next day appointments are usually available at any of our ten clinics.

Tell us at booking whether you have been tested. If you have a confirmed deficiency, or you are already on a regime and just need the next injection, this is straightforward and quick.

If you have not been tested, say so, because the sensible order is test then treat, and Module 5 explains why that matters more than it sounds.

GET TESTED BEFORE YOUR FIRST B12 INJECTION

  • A B12 injection makes a later blood test meaningless. Once you have had 1mg of hydroxocobalamin, your B12 level will read high for months regardless of whether you were deficient to begin with. So if you have never been tested, having the injection first closes the door on ever finding out.
  • Why that matters. B12 deficiency has causes, and they are not all the same.
  • Pernicious anaemia is an autoimmune condition that stops you from absorbing B12 from food. It needs lifelong injections, and it is diagnosed with a blood test that is much harder to interpret once you have been treated.
  • Dietary deficiency, common in vegan and some vegetarian diets, is managed differently and often responds to less.
  • Absorption problems from coeliac disease, Crohn’s disease, stomach surgery, or long-term metformin or acid-suppressing medicines change the picture again.
  • Low B12 can also come with low folate or iron, and treating one without checking the others leaves you feeling no better and wondering why.

So the order is: test, find the cause, then treat at the right interval. If you have already started injections elsewhere without testing, say so, and we will work out what can still be established.

How much is a B12 INJECTION

Worth knowing before you book. A loading course is usually several injections over a couple of weeks, followed by maintenance. If you need a course rather than one injection, the total is what matters, and you should be given that figure before you start.

B12 INJECTION SIDE EFFECTS AND SAFETY

B12 injections are very well tolerated. You cannot overdose on B12 in the way you can with some other vitamins, because the body clears what it does not need.

Common. Soreness or mild swelling where the injection went in, for a day or so.

Uncommon. Mild nausea, headache, or dizziness shortly afterwards.

Rare. A significant allergic reaction, which is why the injection is given by a clinician and you wait briefly afterwards.

Tell us before your injection if you have a known allergy to hydroxocobalamin or cobalt, are pregnant or breastfeeding, take a blood thinner, or have a diagnosis of Leber’s optic atrophy.

What B12 will not fix. If your tiredness is not caused by B12 deficiency, a B12 injection will not resolve it. That is the honest reason testing first is worth the extra step, rather than paying repeatedly for something that was never the problem.

      Referrals and specialist letters

Before you pay: CAN YOU GET B12 INJECTIONS ON THE NHS?

For a confirmed deficiency, usually yes, and free.

If a blood test shows you are B12 deficient, your NHS practice will normally treat it, and B12 injections for a diagnosed deficiency are a standard NHS treatment.

People come to us for reasons that are perfectly good ones. Not being able to get an appointment when the next injection is due. Wanting a shorter interval than the practice will provide. Having no confirmed diagnosis and wanting it investigated quickly. Not being registered with a practice. Wanting it done today.

If your practice will do it and you can wait, that is the cheaper route and we will say so.

Where a private route genuinely helps is getting tested and diagnosed quickly, which is the step that decides everything afterwards.

Who should consider a VITAMIN B12 INJECTION

      Confirmed B12 deficiency

The clearest reason, and the one where injections do the most good.

      Pernicious anaemia

An autoimmune condition affecting absorption. Injections are lifelong, usually every two to three months.

      Vegan and plant-based diets

B12 comes almost entirely from animal foods. Deficiency develops slowly, often over years, and supplements are the first answer rather than injections for most people.

      Digestive conditions

Coeliac disease, Crohn’s disease, and after some stomach or bowel surgery, where absorption is the problem rather than intake.

      Neurological symptoms

Tingling or numbness in hands and feet, memory problems, difficulty concentrating. These are the symptoms that make prompt treatment matter, because prolonged deficiency can cause nerve damage that does not fully reverse.

      Older adults

Absorption falls with age, and deficiency is common and under-recognised.

People on long-term metformin or acid-suppressing medicines

Both reduce B12 absorption over time.
