Why drivers choose our BIRMINGHAM D4 SERVICE
Drivers care about two things: the price with nothing added, and getting the form signed today.
• £75 with the form included, not priced separately.
• 20 to 30 minutes, in a slot you booked.
• You leave with the completed D4, rather than waiting for it to be posted.
• Same day appointments, which matters when a licence expiry is close.
• Assessed against the published DVLA Group 2 standards.
• Edgbaston is straightforward to reach from across Birmingham.

Who needs A D4 MEDICAL
A Group 2 medical is required for HGV, LGV, PCV, PSV and bus licences.
First time applicants. A D4 is needed before the licence is issued.
Renewals from 45. Group 2 licences renew every five years from 45, and annually from 65. Each renewal needs a fresh D4, and the renewal is the one drivers most often leave too late.
After a change in health. A new diagnosis, a change in medication, or a cardiac or neurological event. Tell us at booking, because there are situations where the sensible order is a specialist letter first and the D4 afterwards.
What happens during AN HGV MEDICAL
Everything the DVLA requires, in one appointment of 20 to 30 minutes.
• Full medical history, including medications, mental health and substance use.
• Height, weight and BMI.
• Distance vision and visual fields, with your usual correction.
• Blood pressure.
• Heart rhythm and cardiovascular assessment.
• Neurological examination and reflexes.
• Mobility assessment.
• Diabetes control, where it applies.
• Completion of the DVLA D4 form.

What to BRING
Get this right, and it is one appointment rather than two.
Your photocard driving licence. Photo ID is required.
Your glasses or contact lenses, and your prescription if you have it. Vision is assessed with the correction you actually drive in, so bring what you wear at the wheel rather than an old pair.
A list of your current medicines, with doses.
Any recent specialist letters, if you have a condition the DVLA asks about. Cardiac, neurological and diabetes letters are the ones that most often prevent a delay.

BIRMINGHAM TAXI MEDICAL FAQs
£75 for the complete medical and report.
Same day appointments are usually available.
Most do. Some require the examining doctor to have access to your full medical records, which only your own GP practice can offer. Check your form before booking and tell us what it says.
That is set by Birmingham City Council, not by DVLA. Check with them rather than assuming the five yearly pattern used for lorry licences.
The examination is largely the same and both use Group 2 standards. The paperwork differs. HGV medicals use the DVLA D4 form and taxi medicals use your licensing authority’s form.
Most appointments are done in 15 to 20 minutes.
The one issued by Birmingham City Council. Bring it with you, because a generic report is usually not accepted in its place.
Your authority’s medical form, your glasses or contacts and current prescription, a list of your medicines, details of any condition you are treated for, and any laser eye surgery report.
- Yes, along with the hearing test, at the same appointment.
