Your procedure takes place in our own minor operations theatre, not in a consulting room with the lights turned up. It is at 88 Hagley Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B16 8LU, and it is the surgical site for the whole Private Medical Clinic network.
A surgical nurse is with you from the moment you come through to theatre until you leave, which counts for more than it sounds when you are awake for your own operation. Everything is under local anaesthetic as a day case, so there is no general anaesthetic, no overnight stay, and you are home the same day.

Am I suitable, and DOES IT NEED REMOVING AT ALL?
A lipoma is a soft, mobile lump of fat under the skin, and the great majority are harmless. Many need nothing done. People choose removal when the lump is growing, sits somewhere it gets knocked or rubbed, has become uncomfortable, or is simply somewhere they can see it.
There is a small number of lumps that feel like a lipoma and are not, which is why assessment comes first. A lump that is hard rather than soft, fixed rather than mobile, growing quickly, deeper than it should be, or larger than about five centimetres warrants imaging or a specialist opinion before anything is removed. We would rather say that than operate.
Where a lipoma is straightforward, it is removed as a day case under local anaesthetic. Larger or deeper lipomas may need a different approach, and that is priced after assessment rather than guessed at. Adults aged 18 and over.
How LIPOMA EXCISION WORKS
Step by Step, With Nothing Glossed Over
Local anaesthetic is infiltrated around the lipoma so the area is fully numb. A small incision is made over it and the lipoma is dissected free and lifted out whole, then the space is closed and the skin sutured.
Because a lipoma sits in its own thin capsule, a well-performed excision takes the lot and it does not come back in that spot. What matters is taking it whole rather than piecemeal, and closing the cavity properly so it does not fill with fluid afterwards.
Most lipomas are out in thirty minutes. The tissue is sent to Nationwide Pathology, an accredited laboratory, for examination, which confirms what it was.
